Culture Catalan territory are “els castellers”. A practice, which today has a high symbolic value within Catalan society. It also has international recognition as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Culture and tradition unique in the world. “Els castellers” originated in Valls derivatives called dance Ball de Valencians. A dance that ended with the launch of a tower. The castles held in the main square and usually in times of festivals in the village. Casteller calendar begins in April and ends in November. There are also some activities in winter and early spring.
The castles are building human towers. The slogan identifying traditional “strength, balance, courage and common sense.” Contemplating a display towers, especially participate is an exciting experience that allows to highlight the struggle for individual and collective self-improvement, the effort to achieve a goal, solidarity and integration of people of all ages, conditions and capabilities under one project.
The pineapple all the castles have in common. The foundation holds the weight and structure, the bigger the better. The trunk is the cornerstone formed by the towers themselves and may be two or more stories high. The knob above consists of three floors: twos, and the lifter enxaneta, are the smallest of “els castellers”. The name of the castle comes from the combination of the number of towers with floor to heights. Thus, eight-story castle with three people on each floor is a “three-eight.” Some important castles lining wear, a second smaller pineapple on a pineapple base. The castle rises with the sound of traditional music.
There are many groups in Catalonia and other areas. The Berguedà region also has its “castellers”, els Castellers de Berga.
